March Texas Camp – Wood Crafting
March 19, 2022
How do you turn a common board into a cool project?
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. – 2 Corinthians 5:17
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. – Ephesians 2:10
Our Identity in Christ
Saw Prep
All of our campers needed six one-foot sections of wood to build their project for the day. They all got to use the radial arm chop saw to cut down a 12-foot piece of common board. This tool comes out often for our campers to use. I love that Advance Camp can be the place where these young men learn and refine a skill.
Customization
The campers were handed hammers, grinders, wood stain, a blow torch, and a sander to “age”, add character, and customize their creation. All the campers were making the same thing, but all differently. Once they customized their pieces, they glued two sets three pieces of wood together to make the back and brace pieces.
Completed Project
The completed project was a book, tablet, and/or phone cradle. The neatest part of this all was EVERY camper was making the exact same thing and they all turned out SO much different. What a cool reflection of us. We are all created the same but all so different and unique. God is so cool. A master craftsman.
