December Florida Camp – Fishing

Fishing in Florida

While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him.  – Matthew 4:18-20

Salt Water and Fresh Water Fishing

One of the great things about South Florida is the salt and fresh water fishing is only minutes apart. You can change from fishing for Mackerel and Snapper to Peacock Bass and Snake Head within a couple of miles.

New Skills, New Poles

Fishing tackle was generously covered by a private donor and a HEAVY discount from Bass Pro Shop. Our campers learned how to tie knots, bait hooks, cast, and most importantly untangle wind knots.

Salt and Fresh Water

We spent the morning on Pompano Beach Pier fishing live pilchards, fresh Ballyhoo cut bait, and shrimp. It wasn’t a very productive morning, just 1 big Needle Fish, a pretty big Blow Fish, and 1 small Rock Fish. The afternoon was spent fishing for freshwater Tarpon, Snook, Peacock Bass, and Snake Head with live bait shiners.

Lunch Break & Jesus

During our lunch break, we always do a scriptural study. This study was on putting down our nets and following Jesus. During our lunch study, we had 3 campers accept Jesus, putting down their nets and taking the first steps in following Him!
